The Durham County Individual Championships are decided on league results. This season’s winners of the four sections are:
Alan Sayers Trophy (County Champion) – David Mooney (South Shields)
Robin Horner Trophy (under 1950) – George Gazis (Durham City)
Terry Holmes Trophy (under 1750) – Daniel Turnbull (Peterlee)
William Bentley Trophy (under 1600) – Sanuel Greig (Thornaby)

I started playing chess age 22. Desperate for games it was suggested I might visit Terry Holmes. So in the summer of 1968 I went to his hospital and had the privilege of playing him many times. It was the start of my chess career and I owe him a huge debt. It is fitting that you have a trophy in his name.
Seven years later I drove up from Manchester and played in the Northumberland Open. I won it.
