DCCA Congress Results

Many thanks to Mick Riding, who again did a terrific job in organising the Durham County Congress, as well as the team of arbiters.

OPEN

Grading prizes Marcos Caso Huerta (U2000 sum of opponents tie break) and Andrew Swales (U1900) £50 each.

MAJOR

1st Srivathsan Sasikumar (£400), 2nd John Cawston, Royce Parker, Dave Patterson £117 each.

Grading prizes Kristaps Baumanis (U1750) and Stephen Holmes (U1600 sum of opponents tie break) £50 each.

MINOR

1st Joel Tofield-Brown, £400  2nd Danield Williams, £250, =3rd Rob Jarvis, Ryan Duff (£50 each). Aidin Breakley was also =3 but wins the U1400 rating prize.

Grading Prizes Ethan Tatters (U1550) £50 and Aidin Breakley (Unrated) £50 each.

2023 EJCOA NATIONAL YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

Tim Wall has sent details of the North East Zonal of the 2023 EJCOA National Youth Championships, to be held on Sunday June 18, 1pm-6pm, at Forest Hall Ex-Servicemen’s Institute, 26 Crescent Way North, Forest Hall NE12 8AR.

(Please note: this is NOT Forest Hall Social Club on Great Lime Road, Palmersville).

There are sections for: Under 8s, Under 10s, Under 12s, Under 14s, Under 16s, Under 18s & Under 20s.

Juniors will qualify from the North East Zonal to the EJCOA Youth Championships National Finals, which are in the form of 5-round FIDE-rated tournaments and include high-level coaching from experienced FIDE Trainers.

The EJCOA National Finals take place on 7-9 July at Nottingham High School.

A belated report on the Durham County Junior Championships, held in Coxhoe on 18th March.

Ron Evers Tournament – Results

The Ron Evers tournament – a rating-handicap team event named in honour of a dedicated Washington organiser who was active many years ago – was held last Saturday at Durham University, and was won by Bishop Auckland, ahead of South Shields, Durham University and Durham City.

The winning Bishop Auckland team – Mark and Deborah Edmundson, Paul Jenkins and Bryan Bainbridge.

Cancellation of Events

From Tim Wall:

Unfortunately, the 2022-23 Forest Hall Rapidplay Grand Prix tournaments (November 19, January 28, March 11, April 23 & June 17) and the 5th EJCOA International (December 16-20) have been cancelled due to unforeseen financial problems.

All entrants will receive full refunds as soon as possible, and I would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.
